UPCOMING 8TH GRADE EVENTS

May 16th – “High School Ready” Family Engagement Workshops

Navigating Endorsements, the 4-Year Plan
Beverly Martin, SBISD's Coordinator of Guidance and Counseling Endorsements
9:00 am & 6:00 pm

Endorsements are a critical part of your student's four-year academic plan, and your student selects their endorsement pathway in 9th grade. During this presentation you will gain a clear understanding of the five endorsement pathways. Ms. Martin will talk more about Dual Enrollment and Dual Credit classes that help your student earn college credit simultaneously.

Insider Tips: How Not to Slip Through the Cracks in High School
Trina Morford, SFMS Family Engagement Liaison
10:30 am

Ms. Morford will share proven tools that help you stay connected in high school. She will share additional tips on how to not slip through the cracks and show you ways to get involved. She will also provide you with a custom made volunteer tracking tool your 8th grade student can use starting this summer, and much more.

PSAT Scores & the College Board
Dr. Tracy Scholz, the Director of Advanced Academics for SBISD
7:00 pm

Learn more about The College Board and receive a copy of your student's PSAT score. In October your student took the PSAT 8/9 test, a national assessment from The College Board. They will continue to take a PSAT test each October through their Junior year. Your student will then take the SAT for college admission decisions. Knowing their current score will give you insight into their college and career readiness. It's the perfect way to determine where your student is excelling and where they may need some extra guidance - so you can help them reach their academic goals.
